Liuba María Hevia

===BODY===
Guitarist, composer, and performer. She maintains steady growth, stemming not only from her artistic talent but also from a deep-rooted sensitivity and high respect for her audiences.

Her work, also for "adults," moves with equal success through troubadour song, guajira, habanera, tango, and Latin American folklore, as well as well-executed versions of great Latin American classics. She achieves very special communication with children. She reaches up to them, and from them she offers essential work for our culture.

Of self-taught training, she began her artistic career accompanying her singing with a guitar.

She studied guitar with Leopoldina Núñez. In 1982 she completed her studies in Music Therapy.

She began her artistic career in 1983; afterward she spent a year in Cienfuegos, alongside troubadour Lázaro García. Upon returning to La Habana, she worked with the Artistic Ensemble of the FAR (Revolutionary Armed Forces).

Since 1982 she has been part of the prestigious Nueva Trova movement, founded by legendary figures such as Silvio Rodríguez and Pablo Milanés, with whom she has shared several of her recording works.

Her songs are characterized by poetry, lyrical texts, and the successful fusion of musical genres. Within her compositions we can find guajiras, boleros, sones, habaneras as well as careful versions of great Latin American classics.

Another of her special qualities, and where her great communication with audiences overflows, is her work for children, with works by Cuban poet and troubadour Ada Elba Pérez (Cuba, 1961 - 1992), original themes, and interpretations of classics from the Spanish American children's repertoire.

The presence in her accompanying group of classical strings such as cello and violin alongside Cuban folkloric instruments such as the tres and the lute, and percussion, united with her unmistakable voice, give her work a most personal stamp.

She has participated in the International Festival of the French newspaper L'Humanité, 1986; Ibero-American Festival of the Décima, 1990. Among her influences is that of Pedro Luis Ferrer.

She has toured Colombia and Spain. She obtained, at Cubadisco 2002, for Travesía mágica, the Award in the Children's Music category.
