Marta Isabel Campos Morales

Marta Campos

She began her music studies at the "Amadeo Roldán" Conservatory, graduating in classical guitar in 1976. In 1978 she became a member of the Cuban Nueva Trova movement.

She was president of this movement in the provinces of Sancti Spíritus and Havana and an active member of its national executive. Since then she has participated in various national and international events. Throughout her career she has shared stages with Sara González, Liuba María Hevia, Vicente Feliú, Santiago Feliú, Miriam Ramos, Augusto Blanca, Angel Quintero, Heidi Igualada and Rita del Prado.

From 1988 to 1994 she formed a duo with José Antonio Quesada. In 1982 she participated in the recording of the album Para germinar with Xiomara Laugart, Anabel López, Alberto Tosca and others.

In 1997 she recorded her first solo album titled Quiero dormir con la luna and in 1999 she released her second CD, Como soy, both with the Barcelona record label Picap.

Pablo Milanés, who knows about these and other things, has told us: "With a fine voice and fine guitar, Marta Campos means to me a touch of good taste within the group of feminine trovadorismo of the 80s in our country". Marta is also, for me, a suggestive and beautiful image of our rich cultural mixture: graduated in classical guitar in the mid-70s, she has convinced that instrument -which more than an instrument is companionship- to traverse and enrich popular rhythms and be a tumbadora or bongó or simply music in the hands of this woman of "contagious and complicit Cubanness", as Sara González has called her.

I need a rose
That comes from there and from here

With its perfume of now

When the moon falls asleep and the sea
When the moon falls asleep and the sun, yes

The rose raises its color
Life comes with it.
To sing to love
I need you.
