Daughter of a couple made up of Cuban Alejandro and Mexican Sinuhe, she grew up between Havana, Mexico, and Miami listening to artists like Celia Cruz and Alejandro Fernández.

Camila Cabello is one of five teenage girls (Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane, and Lauren Jauregui) who are part of Fifth Harmony, a vocal group formed during the second season of the competition The X Factor USA, in July 2012. As they finished in third place in the competition, they signed a contract with Syco Music, owned by entertainer and music producer Simon Cowell, and shortly after released their first single, Miss Movin' On.

In 2014, Fifth Harmony won the Artist to Watch award in the competition for the MTV Video Music Awards. They then published their first studio album, Reflection, in 2015, and there began a tremendous success with songs like BO$$, Sledgehammer, and Worth It. Such triumph is probably the reason why Camila enjoys great popularity today.

Apart from her successes with Fifth Harmony, the first major hit of the very young singer is I Know What You Did Last Summer, with her friend, or boyfriend, or occasional partner, Shawn Mendes.
