The film Cinderella starring Cuban singer Camila Cabello could win the Oscars' popularity award, a new category that the American film academy is promoting this year to attract a larger audience to the awards ceremony.

A few days ago, the #OscarsFanFavorite campaign was launched on Twitter, accompanied by a very attractive contest where three winners will be able to attend the 2023 Oscar gala. The initiative stems from the academy's interest in reversing the latest figures for its Oscar awards gala viewership, which have declined to worrying numbers.

In that regard, in recent days Camila Cabello's fans and fans of the film have begun systematically voting for the movie, which has positioned it in first place in the voting.

The Amazon Prime Video musical is currently leading the polls and appears to be well ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was at the top of the voting initially. The contest, logically, has its restrictions, and participants can vote up to 20 times a day until March 3rd, using the hashtag #OscarsFanFavorite or through a web page that was enabled for the award.

The filming of Cinderella was halted for a time due to Covid-19 restrictions, but once it aired, many critics praised the singer's performance and the modernization of this classic children's tale.

Cabello's fans are not the only persistent ones. Johnny Depp also has a legion of loyal followers who are massively voting for Minamata, a drama that has premiered just in time to enter this year's nominations and has been ignored by the Academy.

There's still just over a week left to vote, but if voting continues this way, Cinderella could win the first Oscar in the "Fans' Favorite" category, which ironically was also intended to be a "consolation prize" for those fans of superhero movies who have always received very little recognition from the academy.
