William Gutiérrez Levy

William Levy

William Gutiérrez Levy was born and raised in Cuba, and shortly before turning fifteen, he emigrated to the United States of America because his stepfather obtained political asylum and was able to bring his family from Cuba. He studied acting in Miami, Los Angeles, and Mexico.

While studying in secondary school, he excelled in baseball practice, which allowed him to obtain a scholarship to attend university. He began his studies in business administration, but after two years he interrupted them to venture into the entertainment industry.

He was hired as a model by the Next Models agency, and later participated in two reality television shows broadcast by Telemundo: Isla de la tentación and Protagonistas de novela. In the latter, he met Mexican-American actress Elizabeth Gutiérrez, and together they have a son named Christopher Alexander who was born in March 2006 and a daughter born in March 2010.

In July 2009 he professed the Catholic faith.

On the social front, he has adopted 36 children through the Mexican foundation "Un kilo de ayuda."

He began his career as a telenovela actor in Miami, working in productions by Venevisión Internacional that originally aired in the United States on the Spanish-language network Univision. He made his debut in "Olvidarte jamás," starring Sonya Smith. He later acted in "Mi vida eres tú," with Scarlet Ortiz and Jorge Aravena. His next project was the telenovela "Acorralada," where he acted alongside Mariana Torres. In that production he played Larry Irazabal, brother of Maximiliano Irazabal, embodied by David Zepeda.

Producer Carla Estrada gave him the opportunity to venture into Mexican television with the Televisa melodrama set in the pirate era "Pasión," starring Susana González and Fernando Colunga. His first lead role was alongside Maite Perroni in the telenovela "Cuidado con el ángel"; according to the American magazine Entertainment Weekly, it broke audience records in the U.S. where it aired on Univision. In 2008 he made his film debut in the movie "Retazos de vida" by Ecuadorian director Viviana Cordero, alongside Erika Vélez. The film was shot in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

In 2009 he starred alongside Jacqueline Bracamontes in the telenovela "Sortilegio," a new version of the telenovela "Tú o nadie" which in 1985 starred Lucía Méndez and Andrés García, now under the production of Carla Estrada. That same year he ventured into film dubbing, lending his voice in the animated film "Planet 51" to the character of astronaut Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker (originally voiced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson). The film premiered on November 27 in Mexico. On November 17, 2009 in Morelia, Mexico, the theatrical play "Un amante a la medida" premiered, which he starred in and co-produced, and with which he toured several cities in the Mexican Republic; the same changed its name to "Un amante perfecto."

In 2010 he was the face for the Dolce & Gabbana clothing brand, starring in its advertising campaign. In 2010/2011 he starred in "Triunfo del amor" alongside Maite Perroni, produced by Salvador Mejía. He also participated in the third season of "Mujeres asesinas" by producer Pedro Torres, alongside Belinda. In December 2010 a calendar for 2011 with photographs of the actor went on sale.

In 2011 he worked as a model for a music video for the song "I'm Into You" by Jennifer López, which they recorded in the Riviera Maya. In October of that year, he temporarily replaced Jorge Salinas in the theatrical play "Perfume de Gardenia."

In 2012 he participated in two episodes of the VH1 channel television series called "Single Ladies." He participated in season 14 of "Dancing with the Stars" with two-time champion Cheryl Burke as his dance partner; they finished in third place.

In 2013 he starred alongside Ximena Navarrete in the telenovela "La tempestad."

In 2014 he made his Hollywood debut in the film "The Single Moms Club" and in October the film "Addicted" premiered alongside Sharon Leal.
