Doctor of Historical Sciences from the University of La Habana. Master's in Studies on Latin America, the Caribbean and Cuba. Specialist in Archaeological Sciences.
He completed post-graduate studies in Italy on the restoration of Historic Centers through a scholarship granted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic.
Deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power in the IV, V and VI Legislature. Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Organization.
In 1967 he was appointed Director of the Museum of the City of La Habana, succeeding in his position Doctor Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, of whom he was a student. He assumed the restoration works of the House of Government, former Palace of the Captains General and House of the Chapter that concluded in 1979. In 1981 he was given the responsibility of directing the restoration works investments approved by the Government of the City on May 5 of that year.
On April 16, 1986 he was assigned responsibility for the works at the Fortress of San Carlos de La Cabaña and, later, at the Castle of the Three Kings of El Morro. In accordance with the UNESCO declaration, the perimeter of the old walls and the System of Fortifications for the defense of the city was inscribed in the World Heritage Index in 1982 with number 27.
Historian of the City of La Habana. He is President of the National Commission of Monuments, President of the Cuban Committee of ICOM and President of Honor of the Cuban Committee of ICOMOS; Dean of the Faculty of the "San Jerónimo University College of La Habana".
He is President of the Group of Parliamentarians of Friendship Cuba – Mexico.
He has written essays, prologues and articles on the history of Cuba and abroad. He is the author of the books: Regresar en el tiempo, Detén el paso caminante, Verba Volant, Fiñes, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes El Diario Perdido, La Luz sobre el Espejo, Poesía y Palabra (I and II), Para no Olvidar (I and II), Fundada Esperanza, Patria Amada and Bio-Bibliografía (I, II and III).
