Eusebio Leal Spengler, Historian of the City of Havana, was recognized with the Hadrian Prize awarded by the World Monuments Fund (WMF) for "his heroic efforts to preserve and restore Old Havana," one of the most beautiful and well-preserved historic centers in the American continent, named by UNESCO as Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1982.
The Hadrian Prize is awarded annually, since 1988 to "a distinguished individual, in recognition of his leadership in promoting the understanding, appreciation and preservation of world heritage," reported Magda Resik, from the Communications Department of the aforementioned Office of the Historian of the capital.
On the upcoming October 23rd, at the WMF's annual celebration gala in the American city of New York, the ceremony for granting this Honorary status will take place, which includes artists and civic leaders who have contributed significantly in the field of conservation.
WMF is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of historic architecture sites and world cultural heritage through fieldwork, advocacy, grant-making, education and training.
Founded in 1965, WMF is headquartered in New York and has offices throughout the world, where its affiliates identify and develop restoration projects and attract local support to manage them.
