Office of the Historian Will Celebrate the Birthday of Eusebio Leal

With exhibitions, conferences, and literary and artistic presentations, the Office of the Historian of Havana (OHC) will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the birth of the eternal historian of the city, Eusebio Leal Spengler, starting next September 7.

The activities will begin on that very date at the City Museum, with the conference "Eusebio Leal: Heritage and Symbolism," led by Michael González, director of Cultural Heritage of the OHC, according to the institution's program announcement.

Other venues in the city such as the Castle of the Royal Force, the Museum of Silversmithing, the Numismatic Museum, and the Museum of Sacred Art San Francisco de Asís will jointly develop an exhibition that will include pieces of high patrimonial value, which are the result of a conservation process by the Office.

In spaces of the Directorate of Documentary Heritage, the Numismatic Museum and the House of Asia there will be exhibitions that will honor the memory of Leal Spengler through the personal donations that the historian himself made to those institutions, the OHC reported on its Facebook social media page.

The celebrations for the 80th anniversary of Leal Spengler's birth will extend to other sites outside the historic district, as the monument to José Miguel Gómez, on Avenida de los Presidentes (G Street, El Vedado), the Renewable Energy Demonstration Center and the aquarium, the latter two at the Quinta de los Molinos, will be scenarios in which the hand of the author of the book Fiñes also intervened in their restoration.

At Hospital Street number 660, the place where the historian was born on September 11, 1942, a commemorative plaque will be unveiled for the eight decades of his birth and on that date a solemn ceremony will be held with the participation of the National Concert Band, the OHC reported.

The celebration program will run until September 22 and will make available to the public photographic exhibitions, children's workshops, theatrical, musical and dance presentations to honor the memory of he who made Havana and its history a place of mandatory reference when it comes to heritage.
