Edesio Alejandro
Composer, instrumentalist and music producer. Regional delegate for the Caribbean of the Latin Institute of Music and member of the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences of Hollywood.
MUSICAL STUDIES:
In 1971 he enters the Conservatory "Alejandro García Caturla" where he begins guitar studies with Clara Nicola and Mario Daly. At the Conservatory "Amadeo Roldán" he graduates at the intermediate level with professor Flores Chaviano. Later he completes advanced courses in Composition, Orchestra Direction and Electroacoustic Music with professors Guido López Gavilán, Jorge García Porrúa and Juan Blanco. He receives master classes from Composers and Guitarists Antonio Lauro (Venezuela) and Leo Brower (Cuba).
Edesio Alejandro begins his professional artistic career in 1976, at the legendary Martí theater with the work Guerrilleros del Altiplano.
He has composed music for theater, television and has more than 50 short and feature films. He has also composed numerous concert works for soloist and orchestra, much of it experimental by adding synthesizers to symphonies, or mixing actors, dancers and musicians in new and surprising formats. His work Violente (1987) is considered the first rock opera of Latin America.
He has composed the music for 13 television series.
He has provided sound for various radio stations, has composed identification and ambient music for various international fairs, has created innumerable commercials for different companies around the world, created sound design for the radio of several airlines and composed countless songs for television channels in different parts of the world.
In 1988, he formed his eponymous band, whose innovative and eclectic sound fuses Cuban popular and marginal manifestations, such as rumba, conga, etc., with international genres such as rap, funk, soul and hip hop. He has toured South America, Canada and Western and Eastern Europe.
Edesio's CDs, Orisha Dreams and Black Angel, were among the top 100 World Music in Europe in 1999. Blen Blen, from the Black Angel CD, held the first place for several weeks on the MTV Europe Dance Floor Charts. His compositions have won awards at theater and film festivals.
At the end of 1988 Edesio Alejandro founded his own group, a fact that implies a new conception in his artistic career. During this time he has earned a prominent place in the public's preference. He has made national tours and concerts in the best venues in the country, at Universities, has made innumerable television presentations and in the major theaters of the capital and provinces, has filmed several video clips and his performances are requested by listeners throughout the nation.
In 1999 his CD Black Angel was released in Europe and the song Blen Blen held first place on the MTV Europe Dance Floor Charts for several weeks. In addition, Blen Blen was a major hit in Europe and sold half a million copies in dance singles in Spain, Italy, Germany and Austria.
His CDs Black Angel and Orisha Dreams were selected among the 180 best World Music albums of the year in Europe in 1999.
In 1998 he produces, adapts and arranges for Scatman John the song Scatmambo for the BMG label.
In 1999 he composes together with Scatman John and Kai Matthiesen the song Dream Again for Scatman John's CD Take Your Time.
In 1999 he composes together with Gladys Knight the song Vacilon Felling Good which they record as a duet and in 2005 it was on the top 50 of Smoothjazz in the United States for 10 months, reaching position 7 and third place in World Jazz Singles in 2004.
In 2000 he participates as director of the Cuban Groove night at the Color Café festival in Belgium.
In 2001 he was in charge of music production for an album with the preferred texts of Pope John Paul II, these texts were performed by pop stars such as 'N Sync, Faith Hill, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Britney Spears and other major American singers and actors. The funds raised by this CD were donated as charity to institutions selected by the Vatican.
He composes the music for the musical drama Mabaire together with American composer Paul Joseph, in 2001, to be performed at the Valley Youth Theatre in Seattle.
In 2004 he composes and records El Sopon de Yuya for Bruce Willis's film The Whole Ten Yards.
EDESIO achieves the fusion of Cuban elements with elements of international music in a new package, a different way of sounding, not previously used or heard, he uses Cuban roots expressed in Rumba, Conga and Son among others, influencing or dominating in an unusual mixture with Rap, Funk, Soul and Hip-Hop. It is an eclectic form of Cuban music of marginal and popular origin, performed with the Cuban musical instruments characteristic of each expression, mixed with synthesizer sounds, resulting in an Afro-Cuban Hip-Hop, or as some critics have said Afro-Cu-Hop.
At the end of 2000 he forms The Magic Orchestra of Havana, and invites to participate as singers Alfonsín Quintana, Natalia Herrera and Adriano Rodríguez, three glories of Cuban music who recorded several albums together and some of the songs became hits on different Latin American radio stations in Cuba and around the world.

Bon Jovi said, Edesio is a very unique and creative musician, who has produced a very innovative and soulful musical composition. Obbie O'Brien said, "Edesio combines in one individual the virtues and charismatic talent of three giants like Elvis Presley, Miles Davis and James Dean."
