Edesio Alejandro Receives Treatment in Madrid for Advanced Cancer

Prominent Cuban musician Edesio Alejandro, known for his influential work in music and film, is hospitalized in Madrid due to serious complications related to advanced cancer. The artist, who traveled to Spain in 2023 in search of medical treatment, now faces a difficult battle against the disease.

Edesio Alejandro, 66 years old, moved to the Spanish capital due to the lack of available adequate treatment in Cuba. Originally diagnosed with prostate cancer, the artist has dealt with the disease for several years. However, the shortage of medications on the island complicated his situation, leading him to seek medical care abroad.

Upon his arrival in Madrid, Edesio began a new treatment that is not available in his native country. Despite these efforts, doctors have reported that the cancer has spread to his spine, resulting in advanced metastasis that has worsened his health condition.

In the midst of this situation, Cuban singer Miguel Elkubanisimo has launched a fundraising campaign through GoFundMe to help cover the costs of alternative treatment that could extend Edesio's life. The initiative seeks to raise 36,000 euros to finance chemotherapy sessions and other crucial medical procedures.

Edesio's wife, Idolka de Erbiti Sánchez, has been updating the musician's followers about his health status, indicating that radiotherapies have shown some progress, and chemotherapies will begin in September. Despite the challenges, Edesio continues fighting with optimism, surrounded by the support of his loved ones and the community that has been touched by his music over the years.

In a message shared as part of the fundraising campaign, Edesio expressed his gratitude for the support received and explained that he is admitted to a health facility in Madrid due to intense pain caused by the disease. "We are in a very close fight, and things are not going well," he admitted, highlighting the seriousness of his situation.

Edesio Alejandro is an iconic figure in Cuban music, with a career spanning composition for film and television, as well as his participation in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States. Despite health challenges, his legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists.
