Mijaín López Núñez

He is an athlete who practices Greco-Roman wrestling. He represented Cuba at the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, serving as flag bearer for his country's delegation in the latter. In Beijing he won the gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling, 120 kilos category, winning the final 3-1 against Khasan Baroev of Russia.

In 2010 he becomes world champion in Greco-Roman style for the fourth time. Mijaín went through the year facing adversity in 24 bouts. And his most transcendent success was the fourth world champion title obtained at the world tournament in Moscow, with a perfect performance.

The giant from Pinar del Río was operated on for an elbow and was unable to participate in a group of international tournaments. But he did display his lethal throws and imbalances on the Moscow mat, with a perfect record of 25 technical points in his favor and none against five opponents.

Except for one year, López has reigned as world champion in his category since the Athens Games 2004.
