Mijaín López will seek his fifth Olympic gold medal in the Games and has already decided what he will do after Paris 2024: will he retire? What will he dedicate himself to?
Mijaín won his fourth gold medal in Tokyo 2020 and immediately, speculation began around a possible retirement or continuity, something that would take him to Paris 2024, in search of a fifth title that would expand his legacy.
Now, from Croatia, he spoke about the summer event and defined his future beyond the grand event.
"I am very happy with this start to the year. As we say in Cuba, it started very hot. After a great rest, my body is very well, I am very eager, motivated and determined to go to Paris to win my fifth gold medal," he said.
On whether he retires or not, he clarified everything: "It's already decided. I retire after Paris. It's been many years dedicating myself to sport. It's time to be with and enjoy my family and my children, and to be able to help the new Cuban generations in wrestling to follow the same path and support that I had in my sports career."
Furthermore, he made it clear that he does not wish to be a coach, but would assume another role in his life.
"The truth is that I want to help and transmit all my experience and knowledge to the younger ones. I have to acknowledge that I would not like to be a coach. I prefer to be a leader and help from that position in the sports development of my country and my people," he concluded.
