Alfredito Rodríguez

Cuban singer and composer.

Alfredito studied singing with Italian professor Sisco Francha and acquired other musical knowledge at the Teatro "Amadeo Roldan".

He is one of the most persevering singers in Cuba, he began in 1968, after attempting to study lyric singing where he was not accepted; but his unwavering determination allowed him to overcome obstacles and reach his goal.

His professional artistic work began in 1968 on Cuban television, a medium that had great impact on his career, since a year later he took charge of hosting a famous program "Buenas Tardes" also On the air, From Friday to Friday, and achieved great notoriety for his ventures in Cuban media.

He was a special guest at the Sopot Festival in Poland and the Intertalent Festival in Czechoslovakia. He was the first Cuban singer to perform in the German star musical Ein Kessel Buntes.

He had a rapid rise to popularity performing his own songs, which quickly became hits, such as "Empapado de sudor" and "Que me encapricho", although he also ventures into the Latin American songbook.

His repertoire is varied and includes genres of popular Cuban and international music, cultivating fundamentally romantic songs.

He has international performances in Poland, Mexico, the United States, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Spain, Italy, Czechoslovakia, and Panama.

He follows the style of fashionable international ballad singers, composing many of his own songs. His great moment begins in the 1980s, with that song by Vicente Rojas, "Quiero encontrarme contigo". A period that was also the launching point for almost all the ballad singers of his time: Mirtha Medina, Annia Linares, Ojedita, and María Elena Pena, among others.

Over time, Alfredito became a very debated singer, he likes to be in the spotlight. He also hosts television programs, where he makes excellent use of retro songs and somewhat forgotten artists. As host and producer, Alfredito created the TV programs: His night with Alfredo, In family, Special Saturday, The difference.

In Leipzig, GDR, Alfredito achieved the Golden Lion. He has recorded two albums Mirándote, I am the Forbidden, song of the year, Popularity Award and Original Song ("Que se crezca el amor"). The successes are well remembered: "Buena persona", "Tiritando", "Con mi gente estoy aquí", "Sagitario", "Ay que me encapricho".

He carried out several national tours, the last two in 1994 and 2008.

Awards
During his artistic career, he has had the satisfaction of winning the "Premio Girasol" eight times by popular vote from the magazine "Opina", for the most outstanding artists of each year in Cuba.

Tours
Alfredito, as his people affectionately call him, has toured throughout the island, being the male solo singer with the greatest draw in his country, and one of the "chosen ones" who manages to pack huge concert halls such as the Karl Marx Theater. His audience spans segments of all ages, from infants to elderly people, and tends to keep up with every step of Alfredito's musical life and faithfully attend all his performances.

He carried out several national tours, the last two in 1994 and 2008. His son who bears his same name, is a pianist —finalist at the Montreux Jazz Festival— he directed the musical arrangements and the musical group that accompanied him.

This idol of the masses in Cuba has also performed successfully abroad, conquering various Latin American audiences and offering his art in European countries.

Television Programs

In addition to his uninterrupted work as a singer and composer, Alfredo Rodríguez returned to the small screen at the beginning of the 21st century with programs such as "His night with Alfredo" and "In family with Alfredo" breaking all historical television audience records of Cuban television in recent years.
