Alexander Abreu Manresa

Trumpeter, singer, composer, arranger and Cuban master. Lead voice and musical director of the Havana D' Primera group. His album "La vuelta al mundo" (2015), was recognized with the Cubadisco 2015 Award and also with the award for Best Album of Popular Danceable Music at the same festival. Alexander is the leader of the Havana D´Primera group.

He studied at the Cienfuegos Conservatory where he graduated as a trumpeter in 1997, and at the same time he worked in the amateur artists movement, where he played in the Ismaelillo group and in a Vocal Group under the direction of Rosa Campo.

He completed his primary education at the Dionisio San Román and Guerrillero Heroico schools, both in Cienfuegos (1981-1987). He completed his secondary studies at the 5 de Septiembre school (1987-1990), he attended pre-university at the Dimas Martínez institute (1990-1994) and then continued at the National School of Art (1994-1997).

He graduated in 1994 from the National School of Art. Since his graduation to the present, he has developed different artistic and pedagogical activities.

He is a Professor of trumpet specialty at the National School of Art, and has been invited to teach classes at the RMC conservatory in Copenhagen.

As part of his artistic development, he has done arduous work in productions and recordings in the country and in other countries, with international artists, being one of the musicians with the highest recording record in Cuba:
With Paulo FG and his elite for 6 years, at the beginning, since he started in this orchestra he recorded all of his CDs.
Augusto Enrique and his orchestra, where Pavarotti and Friend participated, together with Sting, James Brown, Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli (an event for the children of Africa).
Irakere: Member of the last generation of this orchestra, where he was called during his student days; with this group he recorded his latest CD: 30 años.
National Symphonic Orchestra: under the direction of Sánchez Ferrer, Duchesne, Sergio Vitier, Frank Fernández with a Grammy nomination.
Team Cuba: in 1998 an orchestra created in Cuba by directors such as Isaac Delgado, Juan Formell, and others, where the cast that participated were all first-line selected musicians.
Pablo Milanés: he made several recordings and one of his albums (Pablo Querido and Homenaje a Pablo).
Klimax: recorded his latest CD and played in the orchestra as a guest at Festivales del tambor.
Issac Delgado and his Orchestra: he was part of this group and recorded two of his albums, (Malecón and Versos en el cielo).
Pachito Alonso: recorded his latest CD La Habana me queda chiquita.

Orchestras with which he has worked: Latin Groove Orquesta, Omara Portuondo, Paulito FG, Isaac Delgado, Augusto Enrique, Irakere, Gerardo Alfonso, Carlos Manuel y su Clan, Manolín el Médico de la Salsa, Danson, Mamborama Orquesta.

He has played as a guest with many figures from around the world, especially Oscar de León. He has also worked with Don Omar, Cubanito 2002 and others.

In Denmark he has been invited to the Jazz Conservatory where he has participated in two of its festivals, giving master classes in trumpet and Cuban music.

He is arranger and composer for the Danson group in Denmark www.grupodanson.com and many more. He has participated in various recordings for TV and national and foreign films, among which stand out: Benny Moré, Un Rey en la Habana and Habana Blues. He has played on several albums that have been nominated for Latin Grammy and American Grammy.

Awards
He obtained a Latin Grammy awarded to the CD La Rumba soy yo.
In 2000 a major competition was held on one of the most important pages for salsa in the world (www.timba.com) where he received the first prize for best timba trumpeter. The competition featured trumpeters of the caliber of Elpidio Chapotín, Carmelo Andrés, Juan Mungia, Julio Padrón, among others.
2015 Together with his Havana D΄ Primera Orchestra, he obtained the Grand Prize Cubadisco 2015 and awards in the category of Popular Danceable Music with his album La vuelta al mundo, from the Unicornio label[1].
