Waldo Díaz

Soloist of the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba. A precocious artist, at twelve years old he performs on a television program. During his military service he becomes involved in the amateur movement.

Baritone born in La Habana, he began his artistic activity on Cuban television at twelve years old and subsequently began his voice studies with Margarita Horruitinier and Zoila Gálvez, graduating in 1989 from the Universidad de las Artes de La Habana (ISA) where he received classes from the maestros Ramón Calzadilla, Adolfo Casas and Angel Menéndez.

He pursues musical studies with Enrique Jorrín and voice studies with Zoila Gálvez, Ramón Chávez and Kiril Krastev. He obtains his degree in music from the Instituto Superior de Arte, where he perfects his vocal technique with Ramón Calzadilla and Adolfo Casas. He debuts as a tenor in the Group "Jorge Anckermann".

In 1980 he is part of the choruses of the Ópera Nacional de Cuba and performs small roles. In 1991 he begins singing in the baritone range, debuting as Germont in La traviata. He joins the Comedia Lírica de Cuba in 1993, and performs in the productions of La del manojo de rosas (Joaquín, 1996); La del soto del parral (Germán, 1997); La tabernera del puerto (Juan de Eguía, 1998); Luisa Fernanda (Vidal, 2000); La leyenda del beso (Mario, 2001); Cecilia Valdés (Pimienta, 2001); Los gavilanes (Juan, 2001).

He is a Voice Teacher at the Universidad de las Artes de La Habana and at the Escuela de Canto Lírico of the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba.

He has performed in Spain, Holland, Nicaragua, Mexico and Colombia.
