Jorge Luis Pacheco Borrego

Musician, Professor and Advisor, Small Screen Award winner and Artist of Merit of Radio and Television.

Baritone who completed his vocal training at the Moscow Conservatory.

As a member of Cuba's National Lyric Theater, he performed the leading roles of his voice type in Rigoletto (1970), The Barber of Seville (1971), La traviata (1972), Scenes from Cecilia Valdés (José Dolores Pimienta, 1972), Il trovatore (1973), The Legend of the Kiss (1974), Il tabarro (1981), The Clowns (Tonio/Silvio, 1982), among other titles.

He was general director of the National Opera of Cuba between 1982 and 1985. Together with maestro Corina Campos, he was artistic director of Vocal Leo.

He directed the Musical Division and currently served as Musical Advisor to Cuban Television.

With the goal of showcasing the talent of Cuban concert music, dance, composition, and chamber jazz, he was the creator and producer of the television project Encounters.

Professor at the University of the Arts, he was also the creator of the National Lyric Singing Festival Contest, called by Cubavisión channel, the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, Uneac, and the National Lyric Theater with the purpose of making visible and congratulating the work of young representatives of this genre in Cuba.

Very many recognitions complement the existence of more than eight decades of this man, lover of his culture and revolutionary par excellence: Combat veteran of the Bay of Pigs and in Ethiopia. Member of the Communist Party of Cuba and member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba; Artist of Merit of Radio and Television. Recognition from the Ministry of Culture for Lifetime Pedagogical Work, the Majadahonda Distinction from Uneac, and the Small Screen Award from Cuban Television.
