Composer, musician and producer are just three of the multiple musical abilities of Descemer Bueno, one of the most popular and virtuoso Cuban artists, exponent of an urban sound with strong vibration.
He studied classical guitar at the "Manuel Saumell" and "Amadeo Roldán" conservatories in Cuba. He graduated as a concert master. His first professional presentations were shared with singer-songwriter Santiago Feliú and as part of this band he composed his first songs.
In the 90's he joined the jazz group Estado de Ánimo, along with guitarist Elmer Ferrer, trumpeter Roberto Carcassés, X Alfonso and Ruy López-Nussa, with whom he made record recordings and multiple international presentations.
During these years he lived in California and taught music at Stanford University, as well as at Cape Town University in South Africa in later years.
At the end of the 90's he bet on a new project; the founding of the hip-hop group Yerba Buena, joining the voices of Xiomara Laugart and Cucú Diamante. It was during this period that he obtained his first Grammy nomination in 2005 with the CD President Alien, the group's debut album and launch. Some of his compositions were used in numerous American films and in advertisements for Pepsi.
His first solo album, Descemer Siete Rayo, was recorded with Universal Latin, after creating his own band of the same name, Siete Rayo, in 2004. In this he managed to mix Cuban rhythms such as cha cha cha, timba and changüí with Caribbean sounds such as reggae, calypso or reggaeton.
After several years living abroad, Descemer Bueno returned to Cuba to resume his music career, producing, arranging and composing with young artists from the island such as Haydée Milanés, William Vivanco and Yusa. During this stage he composed the soundtrack to the film Habana Blues, which earned him the first Goya Award from Spain in 2006 for Best Original Soundtrack.
He also participated in the soundtracks of American films such as "Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights" (1987), "Cheaper by the Dozen" (2003), "Honey" (2003) and "Chasing papi" (2003).
He was also the musical director of the films "Violeta" (1998), "Corazón del tiempo" (2007), "Habana Eva" (2009), "Siete días en La Habana" (2011). Descemer collaborated in the creation of the soundtrack for the American television series E.R. (Emergency Room) and The O.C. and in the Mexican telenovelas "Cuando me enamoro" (2011) and "La que no podía amar" (2012), both from Televisa.
His musical work has been recognized in Cuba, where he has collaborated with award-winning artists such as Omara Portuondo, Kelvis Ochoa, Buena Fe, Baby Lores, Leoni Torres, Gente de Zona, Waldo Mendoza, Carlos Varela, Omar Hernandez (Omi), Timbalive, Issac Delgado, Kola Loka, Diana Fuentes, El Micha, El Chacal, Jacob Forever, Nassiry Lugo (Moneda Dura), Luna Manzanares, Alain Daniel, among many others.
Albums such as Bueno (2013), earned him the Cubadisco Award that same year at the most important festival of Cuban discography. He has also been worthy of several nominations and Lucas awards during audiovisual competition events on the island. He has conducted several national tours in Cuba; the most recent, in 2016, brought together more than 150,000 people at each concert.
His compositions have been in the TOP 10 of Billboard's Hot Latin Track in collaboration with major artists such as: Marco Antonio Solís, Juan Luis Guerra, Ana Torroja, Thalía, Fonseca, Luciano Pereyra, Samo (Camila), Ana Bárbara, Luis Enrique, Rosario Flores, Jorge Villamizar, Ricky Martin, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Estopa, Melendi, Beatriz Luengo, Pitbull, Wisin, Yandel, Romeo Santos and Enrique Iglesias, the latter being one of his most faithful exponents.
Among Bueno's greatest hits are songs such as: "Loco", "Lloro por ti", "No me digas que no", "Ayer", "El perdedor", "Súbeme la radio" and "Bailando", the latter with more than 2 billion views on YouTube.
Throughout his career he has obtained 17 nominations and 31 international awards among which Latin Grammy, Latin Billboard, Premios Lo Nuestro and Premios Juventud stand out. His compositions have also been recognized with 9 ASCAP awards.
Descemer Bueno's talent is demonstrated and therefore has also been recognized by other artists such as Steve Coleman, Winton Marsalis, David Sánchez, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Billy Higgins, Tooty Heath, Rufus Reid, Anjelique Kidjo, Dave Matthews Band, among others, who have requested his musical collaboration. His music has traveled the five continents and now the artist himself is committed to defending his art.
In 2012 his production Bueno came to light where he interprets songs of his own authorship that were recognized for their interpretation by singers such as Enrique Iglesias, Juan Luis Guerra, Wisin and Yandel, etc. This album is conceived based on duets: Haila, Alain Daniel, Kelvis Ochoa, Baby Lores, X Alfonso, the duo Buena Fe, Gema Corredera, Omar Hernández (Omi).
In 2013 he joined Cuban singer-songwriter Kelvis Ochoa to create a musical inspired by José María López Lledín, legendary Habanero character known as "El Caballero de París", with choreography by Eduardo Blanco.
In 2018 he performed at Starlite Festival on its Sessions stage.
On January 18, 2019 he released the song "Matame" with Spanish singer Melody and El Micha.
