One of the most popular actresses in Cuba, she has successfully developed her career in both film and theater, putting her acting presence into practice.
She was born in La Habana. Daughter of the prestigious lyric singer María Eugenia Barrios. She studied classical ballet at the "Alejo Carpentier" school where she graduated from the elementary level.
After graduating from ballet school, she began her work as an actress on TV alongside great stars such as Antonio Vásquez Gallo, Consuelito Vidal and Rosa Fornés.
After one more year of ballet studies, she remained away from the artistic world until 1990 when she entered the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) in La Habana, having the great Vicente Revuelta as her teacher, where she graduated as an actress in 1995.
Within ISA she was part of "La Colmena," a group formed by students from all artistic disciplines and which, under the direction of Carlos Alberto Cremata, brought art through Mountain Brigades to remote places in our towns.

Awards and honors
With the Bride in "Blood Wedding" and directed by Bertha Martínez, one of her most important teachers at that time, she receives one of the awards for best lead performance at the International Festival of La Habana given by UNEAC.
She has navigated through genres as diverse as children's theater, tragedy, comedy and political theater.
In 2006 she obtained the "Avellaneda" Prize for Female Acting for her performance in Havana Delirium, at the National Theater Festival of Camagüey.
Her development in theater and television
Amarilys Núñez has been growing in theater and television, where she occupies a privileged place. However, she longs for higher experiences that allow her to always go further.
It is as if she herself moves her goal away so as not to touch it when she feels it is close. She lives in constant professional evolution and if by chance ballet lost her, acting won her in a brilliant way, and that is what is important: her talent remained in Cuban art.
Failing to notice Amarilys Núñez is impossible. Although in the casting she may not occupy a leading role, her presence (very pleasant by the way), her acting presence and an underlying energy that shines through her beautiful slanted eyes force you to look at her and enjoy her.
Performances in Cinema
Amarilys, with solid theatrical training, is a very popular face on television where she successfully championed the role of the evil Adelfa in Oh! La Habana.
Her face that can become hard in reflection or anger unfolds when she laughs. Her well-formed body, however, gifts us a very feminine fragility that belies any villainy in the character.
