Adelaida López Legrá

Adela Legrá

A young woman of peasant origin, she first dedicated herself to household tasks and later to agricultural work in various places in the old province of Oriente, harvesting coffee, and in the planting and harvesting of root vegetables and greens.

In Baracoa, the oldest and most isolated city in Cuba, while working as an activist for the Federation of Cuban Women, director Humberto Solás found her and offered her the leading role in the medium-length film Manuela, which was a great success in Cuba and at various international festivals.

Her face as a peasant woman, both strong and beautiful, her sincerity and freshness, made her the ideal protagonist for the third story in Lucía, an emblematic film of Cuban cinema. In addition to acting in these and other films, she has worked in various series for Cuban Television.

Recognition
Together with filmmakers Enrique Pineda Barnet and Nelson Rodríguez Zurbarán, she received a special recognition at the headquarters of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba in Camagüey for her valuable contributions to Cuban cinema.
