Yandy Núñez Martínez

Yandy was born in Calabazar in Ciudad de La Habana.

In Cuba, Yandy worked as a tour guide. Upon arriving in Europe, he worked as a fisherman in European seas and discovered his love for mountaineering. He is one of nearly 40 Cubans living in Iceland.

Yandy Núñez dreams of becoming the first Cuban to climb Mount Everest, but before reaching this difficult goal and planting the Cuban flag at the top of the world, the Cuban has already conquered four of the highest mountains from different parts of the globe: Hvannadalshnjúkur, in Iceland (2109.6 meters); Mont Blanc, in France (4810 meters); Mount Elbrus, in Russia (5642 meters); the Citlaltépetl volcano, known as Pico de Orizaba and considered the highest mountain in Mexico (5636 meters), the latter in December 2019.

Who finances him? No one. Or rather, he does himself, with the hours he spends on the high seas working as a fisherman on a ship through the Nordic waters of Iceland, the place where he has lived since 2015 and where he discovered his passion for climbing mountains.
