Roberto Pacheco Martínez

Pacheco is currently considered the dean of sports commentators in Cuba, and was one of five personalities recognized with the National Radio Award 2018.

A native of Caimito, current province of Artemisa. Radio announcer. With 52 years of professional dedication, he has participated in the broadcast of 52 National Baseball Series, and represented the ICRT at numerous sporting events in Cuba and around the world. He holds medals for National Culture, Martyrs of Barbados, and the Struggle Against Bandits; he is an Adopted Son of the city of Remedios and was awarded the Key to the City of Camagüey.

The sports narrator has been present at six Olympic Games, 11 Pan American Games and an equal number of Central American and Caribbean Games. He also accumulates over one hundred first-rate events, and since 1972 has been one of the voices of baseball broadcasts on Radio Rebelde.

His distinctive way of narrating baseball has inscribed him in the popular memory of all Cubans. He has been president of the National Council of Sports Clubs since December 21, 2000.

His cheerful, friendly and witty style has won over many listeners for more than half a century in his boxing and baseball narrations. About him, prominent villaclareño journalist José Antonio Fulgueiras wrote: "Roberto Pacheco is a Cuban with flavorful humor from head to toe. He possesses the gift of popular and contagious grace to describe ballplayers and baseball plays behind a microphone."

Pacheco also received the Abelado Raidi Award for lifetime achievement granted by the Association of Sports Journalists of America (AIPS América).
