Sergio Andricaín Hernández

Writer, journalist, critic, literary researcher, and editor. He graduated in Sociology from La Universidad de La Habana and completed postgraduate studies at the Centro Latinoamericano de Demografía, based in Costa Rica.

He was a researcher at the Centro de Investigaciones Culturales Juan Marinello, of the Ministry of Culture of Cuba.

In 1991, in Costa Rica, he was an advisor for the national reading program Un libro, un amigo, carried out by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and professor of the Modular Workshop for Reading Promotion, a project developed by the UNESCO Subregional Office of Education for Central America and Panama. He was a consultant for this latter institution in two editorial projects: the Biblioteca del Promotor de Lectura Collection and the book Niños y niñas del país.

Between 1994 and 1999 he resided in Bogotá, Colombia. There he worked as a projects officer for the Centro Latinoamericano para el Libro y la Lectura (CERLALC) and as editor of the children's magazine of the Fundación Batuta. He participated in the creation of the association Taller de Talleres.

As a journalist, he has contributed to magazines and newspapers in Cuba (La gaceta de Cuba, Revolución y Cultura, El caimán barbudo), Costa Rica (La Nación), Colombia (Hojas de lectura, Revista latinoamericana de literatura infantil y juvenil), Spain (Escuela y Biblioteca, Amigos del libro), and the United States (Buen Hogar).

He currently lives in Miami, United States.

He created with Antonio Orlando Rodríguez the Fundación Cuatrogatos (www.cuatrogatos.org), which develops educational and cultural projects, with an emphasis on promoting reading.

In 2021 he won the Campoy-Ada Children's and Young Adult Literature Award 2020 for picture books combining fiction and non-fiction, for the Colección A lomo de cuento, which he published with Antonio Orlando Rodríguez, and which was illustrated by Elisabeth Builes, Roger Ycaza, Israel Barrón, Carolina Durán, and Nuria Feijoo.
