Sergio Andricaín Wins Children's Poetry Award

Sergio Andricaín is one of the leaders of the Cuatrogatos Foundation, based in Miami, whose purpose is the promotion of reading and study of children's and young adult books in Spanish.

Cuban-American writer Sergio Andricaín won the Campoy-Ada Prize 2022 in the Latino-centric Children's Poetry category.

The Campoy-Ada Prize has various categories. It is sponsored by the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE) and the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA).

Andricaín received the award for the work "Tilingo, tilingo: Rimas, trabalenguas, y adivinanzas tradicionales," of which he made the selection and prologue. The book is illustrated by Claudia Navarro and was published in 2022 by Vista Higher Learning publishing house.

The Cuban-born writer leads in Miami, together with Antonio Orlando Rodríguez, the Cuatrogatos Foundation. This non-profit organization works in favor of culture and education. They have commendable work as promoters of reading, writing, and study of children's and young adult books in Spanish.

The Campoy-Ada Prize is inspired by two important figures of bilingual literature in the United States: F. Isabel Campoy and Alma Flor Ada. It is aimed at celebrating the publication of books in Spanish in the United States and Puerto Rico for a children's and young adult audience.

This prize has been awarded since 2017 on a biennial basis. It has 24 categories, of fiction and non-fiction, Latino-centric themes and universal themes. Its main objective is to foster a multicultural understanding of American society.
