Renowned sports narrator and commentator Roberto Pacheco Martínez passed away in the morning hours of this Monday in Havana, reported the sports section of Radio Rebelde in a note published on its website.
With more than 50 years dedicated to narration, Pacheco Martínez developed an extensive career at that Cuban broadcasting station since 1972.
The note recalls that he participated in six Olympic Games, 11 Pan American Games and an equal number of Central American and Caribbean Games. His voice was present in more than 50 National Baseball Series and in various international events through the microphones of Cuban Radio.
Among other recognitions, Pacheco received the Distinction for National Culture and the Martyrs of Barbados, the National Radio Prize in 2018 and the Abelardo Raidi Prize for Life Work awarded by the Association of Sports Journalists of America, in 2020.
"The sports section of Radio Rebelde regrets the physical loss of this valuable communicator, who left a mark on the country's sports narration," concludes the note.
