Paula Daniela Rodríguez Masolla

Pau, Paula Masolla

Paula is an actress and presenter of the Lucas project on Cuban television, and is also a Cuban influencer.

Pau started working in the media as a child. At just 7 years old, she appeared in the teleplay La ronda del asesino, alongside Isabel Santos. Later, for several school years, she presented the educational programs El mundo del revés and Para ser mejores.

Paula's inclination toward art is practically genetic. Her mother Edith is one of the most well-known actresses and presenters in Cuba; her father is actor Abel Rodríguez and her older sister, Natalia Tápanes Massola, equally debuted as a singer and actress at a very young age.

She notes that "From second or third grade in elementary school I was super busy with work. Sometimes I would leave school early because I had a recording. It was something I grew up with. That instilled in me the love for work and the responsibility to handle everything at the same time, both school and the professional side."

"I always liked it. It was never imposed by anyone or mandatory."

It has been difficult for her because people pressure her from the start and she had to break away from that. She learned everything from her mom, but at the same time created her own style. However, she always prepares herself for what she is going to do, whether it's hosting or acting.

Sometimes people tell her: "you did that really well, I didn't expect it," because they expected less. Some people think: "she's here because of her family." And not at all, it's been complicated because more is demanded of her and she has more responsibility.

At 14 years old, Paula was a teenager dealing with the fame of appearing on TV and belonging to a successful family in the entertainment world.

Then she faced her first setback: she failed the entrance exams for the National School of Art (ENA). "The world was falling apart on me," she recalls. However, over time she was grateful for that lesson: "from that moment on I gave the importance that the career really carried." She studied intensely and the following year she passed to fulfill her dream of studying Theater. At ENA you learn to understand your reaction to things and to know yourself. In addition to acting workshops, the methods and dramaturgy. She read extensively and that opened her world to other frontiers. Studying at the School of Art taught her to defend what she is and what she feels.

The first big break in her career came when Orlando Cruzata selected her to present Lucas, more than eight years ago. The bond of the youngest of the Massolas with this program is very special because her mother was the founding host. "For me it was a tremendous honor. I held on tight during the audition and since high school I've been on Lucas… until death do us part."

Later, while studying at ENA, she joined the prestigious theater company El Público, directed by Carlos Díaz. She also played a role in the TV dramatized production: El bardo inmortal.

Once graduated, she was the protagonist in the teleplay Mentiras de cristal, directed by María Isabel Díaz and Magda González. Recently, also under Magda's direction, she was in the telefilm Para toda la vida.

In the past year, Pau Massola has been more focused on her work on social networks. She launched an interview program on Youtube, opened her own channel and became one of the most successful instagrammers residing on the Island.

The owners of the Familia Cubana channel, who emigrated to the United States, contacted her to make "Te lo dice Pau". For some time they had been looking to create an interview segment with artists.

She thinks she will continue with this and sees it as something long-term. She wants to perfect each season. She has over 100 episodes. "I watch the first interview I did and I realize how much I've changed."

She always wanted to have a Youtube channel, but she imagined the typical youtuber telling about her life. It had never occurred to her to do something like this. So far it's nothing she can confirm nor does she have a specific content planned, but she would like to.

On Youtube she has a team that relieves her of the pressure and the behind-the-scenes work. In the case of Instagram, it takes her a lot of work because it's her life. It's complicated to create content.

She has already managed to have a significant number of followers.
