Miriam Nicado García

Member of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba since April 19, 2018, reelected in the extraordinary session of the IX Legislature of the National Assembly of People's Power held on October 10, 2019, a position she will hold until 2023 and Deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power for the IX Legislature. Appointed Rector of the University of Havana on November 19, 2018. Elected Honorary Member of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba.

Native of Sagua la Grande.

Graduate of Higher Education. Degree in Applied Mathematics and Doctor in Mathematical Sciences. Full Professor. Member of the II Contingent of the Manuel Ascunce Domenech Pedagogical Detachment.

At the Central University Marta Abreu of Las Villas, Miriam Nicado was head of the Mathematics Department; dean of the Faculty of Mathematics-Physics-Computing; academic vice-rector and general secretary of the PCC Committee.

For nine years during that period she held political responsibilities at that center of higher education and served as a non-professional member of the Provincial Bureau of the Party in that central province.

She has taught in mathematical areas at universities in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, and Ecuador.

Subsequently, she served as rector of the University of Computer Sciences (UCI) 2012-2018 and is currently rector of the University of Havana (UH), member of the Political Bureau of the PCC, member of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba and deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power, responsibilities in which she has been characterized by dedication and commitment.

On November 19, 2018, she was appointed Rector of the University of Havana (UH), the first woman to hold such a prestigious position in the 290 years of the oldest institution of higher education.

She is Deputy for the municipality of La Lisa, province of Havana.

In the Constitutive Session of the IX Legislature on April 19, 2018, the members of Parliament elected her as member of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba.

Ratified in the extraordinary session of the IX Legislature of the National Assembly of People's Power held on October 10, 2019, a position she will hold until 2023.
