Ph.D. in Philosophy and Letters from the University of La Habana. Principal Professor of Cuban History at the Instituto Superior Pedagógico "Enrique José Varona" (1966-1970) and of Cuban Historiography, Faculty of Philosophy and History (1975-1998), University of La Habana, as well as of the Master's Program in America and Cuba at this faculty from its founding until 1999.

Carmen is a specialist in shared Cuba-Spain history. The Iberoamerican Culture Classroom, which had its first venue in the Lezama Lima Room of the Gran Teatro de La Habana and later at the Spanish Cultural Center, was essential and allowed for feedback between participants and guests: writers, linguists, Spanish professors and specialists from numerous institutions. The Classroom space later led to several projects, including the current Conference Room on Hispano-Cuban Culture, a space with more than fifteen years of existence that receives collaboration from the Spanish Embassy through its Aid Grants program.
This distinguished historian is a member of several university chairs since their founding and of Scientific and/or Advisory Councils, as well as a collaborator with different institutions.
She was coordinator of the academic space Iberoamerican Culture Classroom in the Lezama Lima Room of the Gran Teatro de La Habana and at the Spanish Cultural Center (1987-2003). For ten years she has directed the Workshop Social Sciences in Debate, a space for young professionals graduated from the Social Sciences area.
She has been invited to participate in colloquia and conferences at various Spanish universities and has given lectures in Cuba and other countries on topics related to Cuban History, History of Cuban Education and Cuban Historiography.
She has published four critical collections on Cuban historiography (basic university texts and mandatory references for specialists), a preliminary study in Máximo Gómez: Campaign Diary 1868-1899 (Universidad de Oviedo, 1998), La Habana, Puerto Colonial (Madrid, 2000), Presence of Cuba in Current Spanish Historiography (Editorial Doce Calles, Madrid, 2007).
She has coordinated all three volumes of Our Common History published by Editorial Ciencias Sociales and Notebook 1 Iberoamerican Culture Classroom (2002).
