Rodolfo Abel Alarcón Ortiz

Rodolfo Alarcón served as Rector of Ispjae and Vice Minister and Minister of Higher Education. His books are a reference for the mechanical engineering degree in Cuba and other countries.

Doctor of Sciences and full professor at the Higher Polytechnic Institute José Antonio Echeverría (Ispjae), he is the author of more than one hundred titles, which are references for the mechanical engineering degree.

Among the main positions he has held throughout his professional life are Rector of Ispjae (1980 to 1987), Vice Minister (1987 to 1994), First Vice Minister (1994 to 2012) and Minister of Higher Education (2012 to 2016).

During his long career in Cuban higher education, he obtained, among other awards and honors, the Literacy Medal, the Medal for the 40th Anniversary of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Distinction for Cuban Education and the Rafael María de Mendive Distinction.

Selected as an exceptional executive of the State and Government of Cuba in 1999, he was awarded the title of Doctor honoris causa of the Metropolitan University of London (2004) and the Frank País Order of the Second Degree (2008).

Additionally, he was recognized as Professor Emeritus of Ispjae (2008), Honorary Professor of the National University of the Northwest, Buenos Aires, Argentina (2008) and Doctor honoris causa of the National Engineering University of Nicaragua (2014).
