Héctor Manuel Rodríguez Silva

Professor Dr.C Hector Manuel Rodríguez Silva, Hero of Work of the Republic of Cuba, eminent internist, trainer of several generations of doctors, tireless in his professional, teaching and research performance.

Born in Santo Domingo, province of Villa Clara, Cuba, on July 20, 1929. Doctor of Medicine since 1960, Specialist of Second Degree in Internal Medicine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Rodríguez Silva was Professor of Merit, Researcher of Merit, Assistant Professor and Full Professor.

He devoted more than a century to the training of several generations of doctors for Cuba and the world, emphasizing that this profession requires professional ethics and the doctor-patient relationship with family members, and professors must instill humanistic values, teach and transmit the moral values that new generations of physicians need.

He completed primary and secondary education in the Public Schools of Santo Domingo with Outstanding grades.
Then Pre-University Education: (1945-150) he completed at the Institute of Secondary Education of Havana. More than 90% of the subjects with outstanding grades.

University education was completed at the School of Medicine of the University of Havana. He was an Internal Student by consensus of Hospital Reina Mercedes (1957-1958) and Hospital Calixto García 1959.

In 1964 he began teaching at Hospital "Saturnino Lora" in Santiago de Cuba. Subsequently he also taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Military Hospital "Carlos J. Finlay" and also served as Vice-Director of Teaching at Hospital "Calixto García"

Research Activity and Publications
His fundamental contribution to medical teaching is valued in the preparation of the study plan of the School of Medicine of the University of Havana. He stands out for his participation as an expert in the new study plan initiated in 1978 and in the Methodological Seminar. He visited several foreign universities with the purpose of improving the study plan and the methodological process in Cuban centers.

He has tutored completion theses for the Residency and for Doctorates in Medical Sciences. He participated in multiple national and international congresses with different presentations. He has more than twenty scientific works published in national and international journals; as well as, he has the merit of having published as author or co-author eight books linked largely with his specialty: Internal Medicine.

He is a member of the International Society of Internal Medicine, the Latin American Society of Internal Medicine and the Cuban Society of Internal Medicine. Director of the Cuban Journal of Medicine. President of Doctoral Tribunals of Medical Sciences. Member of the Commission of Scientific Degree of the Institute of Higher Medical Sciences.
