Eduardo Sosa Laurencio

Sosa is a prominent Cuban troubadour from Santiago de Cuba who has captivated audiences with his compositions full of traditional roots and a distinctly Cuban style.

He is a native of Mayarí. He began his music career at age 12, participating in festivals organized by various student organizations until reaching the University Student Federation (FEU) where he won several awards.

The richness of sound reaches Sosa from his birthplace, perhaps to reaffirm that great maxim by Miguel Matamoros that states that good singers come from the hills, but they sing in the plains.

Thus, from the highest elevations of the Island—those of Santiago de Cuba—Eduardo Sosa extracted countless themes that he has made universal. The group that accompanies him has not left its roots behind either and pours into the melody the most classic elements of son, achieving such sonority with the union of percussion, bass, tres, trumpet, and guitar.

His professional beginnings started in 1997 with the formation of the duo "Postrova" in which he performed for 5 years, achieving results such as inclusion in the encyclopedic dictionary of Cuban music, participation in the Cuban film "Las Profesías de Amanda," obtaining the Premio Abril in 1998, a recognition granted by youth organizations in the country, and the recording of two albums: the first, "Postrova" from Caribe Productions and EMI - ODEON España labels, and the second also for EMI - ODEON España, unreleased by decision of the record company.

The Postrova duo disbanded at the end of 2002 and after some time Eduardo resumed his career as a solo troubadour, performing throughout the country, with notable concerts including "No tan solo," on November 15, 2003 at the Museum of Fine Arts, and "Pasando los treinta," on April 24, 2004 at the A guitarra limpia space of the Pablo de la Torriente Brau cultural center. He also performed other concerts at the Amadeo Roldán Theater and at the Hispano-American Center of Culture, the latter alongside renowned pianist Robertico Carcassés.

He was included in the collective CD "Acabo de soñar," a tribute by young troubadours to José Martí.

He is a member of the Asociación Hermanos Saíz and serves on its National Music Commission. His repertoire, of which he is the author, includes songs, blues ballads, and fundamentally Cuban music genres such as traditional son. It is worth noting that he also has incorporated into his repertoire, and on an occasional basis, songs by other Cuban and foreign composers.

He has shared the stage with important musicians of the caliber of Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Compay Segundo, Carlos Varela, Ana Belén, Fito Páez, Los Papines, etc. He carried out a tour through Chile shared with the renowned Cuban troubadour Gerardo Alfonso. He has also performed with great acceptance in countries such as Spain, Mexico, Cyprus, Bahamas, and the Canary Islands.

Tracks from his solo album
Excellent the voice of Eduardo in this fine album, the second solo if one counts the one recorded for the A Guitarra Limpia space.

Retoño del monte
A mi me gusta, Compay
Tú también, mi cielo
El son de contramaestre
Tan llena de tristezas
Se están amando
Santa María de las canciones
Era miel (with Silvio Rodríguez)
Para alejar la tristeza
Pajarito y bandolero
Y si no bastara
