Daniel Escudero

He was born in La Habana. He completed his musical training at the Conservatorio Levy, where he studied singing with Carmelina Santana Reyes. He was also a student at the Opera School of the Conservatorio «Hubert de Blanck», directed by Paul Csonka and Serge Vermel.

He premiered in Cuba Gianni Schichi (Rinuccio), by Puccini and La oca del Cairo (Biondello), by Mozart (1956, both on the same day) and Angélique, by Ibert (1957). He also participated in several opera seasons of the Sociedad Pro Arte Musical.

He was part of the Grupo Experimental de Ópera —Il tabarro (Luigi, 1964)— and the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba, which he joined in 1966. In the latter company he distinguished himself performing the leading roles in Rigoletto (Duke of Mantua, 1966), Don Pasquale (Ernesto, 1967), El barbero de Sevilla (Almaviva, 1967), La traviata (Alfredo, 1972).

He substituted for Raúl Camayd in the general direction of the Lírico de Holguín, who was touring Europe and Asia. With the eastern company he carried out the staging of his version of Roig's work, La Habana de Cecilia Valdés (1973).

He also performed some opera and zarzuela titles for TVC (directed by maestros Gonzalo Roig and Rodrigo Prats, between 1961 and 1962).
