Benig Rumayor
Born in La Habana. Studies singing with Mariana de Gonitch and perfects his technique with Ana Talmachenko, Kiril Krastev and Ramón Calzadilla.
Obtains a degree in Music from the Instituto Superior de Arte.
Joined the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba in 1968 and was part of the choruses of the Cuban premieres of Fidelio, by Beethoven, by the Ópera de Leipzig (1970) and Halka, by Moniuszko (1971), and performs in minor roles in some operas.
In 1977 he performs as Julián in La verbena de la Paloma (Julián) and the following year performs Leonardo in the production of Cecilia Valdés, directed by Roberto Blanco.
Includes in his repertoire the leading roles of the zarzuelas and operettas Lola Cruz (Ricardo Chacón), Amalia Batista (Julio), Bohemios (Roberto), La leyenda del beso (Iván), La corte de Faraón (Casto José), Molinos de viento (Capitán Alberto), El cafetal (Niño Alberto and Lázaro), La viuda alegre (Danilo), La revoltosa (Felipe), Los claveles (Fernando), La chulapona (José María), Frasquita (Hipólito), Rosa la China (José), María la O (José Inocente),
Has performed in Central Europe (performing the Slave in Cecilia Valdés, 1974); Medellín and Bogotá (Fundación de Arte Lírico, 1992, 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2000), Colombia; Nicaragua; Spain (with the Cuban zarzuela anthology Mi querida Habana, 1991 and 1992); Italy (Tato Russo's Operetta Company, 1994).
Has resided in Colombia since 1996.
