Ares
Ares is a psychiatric physician, cartoonist, illustrator and self-taught painter who works as an independent artist, author of numerous books and publications in the press.
He studied medicine at the University of La Habana, graduating in 1987. In 1993 he completed his studies in the specialty of psychiatry.
He publishes his first cartoon in 1984, in the magazine Opina. From that date on his works have appeared in the main Cuban publications and numerous publications throughout the world.
Ares has participated in a large number of humor events in which he has obtained more than one hundred awards, and is currently the Cuban cartoonist with the greatest number of international awards in this type of competition.
He has also illustrated more than fifty books and has collaborated with television and animation cinema, in the latter eight animated films based on his cartoons have been made (Filminutos).
He has taught courses and lectures on graphic humor in Cuba, Iran, Mexico, Colombia, Turkey, Canada, Finland, Venezuela and Spain and has been an organizer of several international cartoon events in Cuba and abroad. He has worked as an international jury member in humor exhibitions on multiple occasions in several places such as Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Cuba, Iran and Turkey.
In 1994 he was nominated by the specialized magazine Witty World to appear on the list of the best cartoonists in the world, he was nominated by Cuba for the Quevedo Prize for Ibero-American Caricature, included in the Memory Project as one of the most relevant visual artists of the 20th Century in Cuba and included among the twenty most important cartoonists of the last century according to the survey The Twenty of the 20th Century.
He has taught courses and lectures on graphic humor in Cuba, Iran, Mexico, Colombia, Turkey, Canada, Finland, Venezuela, and Spain and has been an organizer of several international cartoon events in Cuba and abroad. He has illustrated more than thirty books.
He has collaborated with television and animation cinema in which eight animated films based on his cartoons have been made (Filminutos).
His cartoons are equally published in numerous media outlets throughout the world.
He has worked as an international jury member in humor exhibitions on multiple occasions in Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Cuba, Iran and Turkey.
