Died: December 20, 2005
A prominent Cuban comic strip cartoonist passed away at the age of 88 in Havana.
He was editor of Pitirre in 1936. Fornés was the author of the page "José Dolores, the Creole creation" published in the magazine Rosa de Avance, back in 1936 and until 1939.
From 1957 to 1963 he brought to light "Don Sabino", a character considered one of the works of the classic of modern comic strips in Cuba, on the pages of the supplement of the newspaper Información and, later in strips, in the newspaper Revolución.
The profound meaning and inspiring motives of Fornés Collado's work emerge vividly from the "Notes of a Cartoonist" and the "Interview with Sabino Fornés", published in the magazine Signos, in 1976.
Fornés' work is totally unknown outside of Cuba; in the country his work has been recognized since 2002.
