Antolín, el Pichón
Recognized and popular Cuban humorist, Antolín el Pichón is well-known to the people of Cuba.
Ángel García, native of Manacas, creator of Antolín El Pichón, is an essential figure in Cuban humor. Perhaps he does not have the talent of Leopoldo Fernández, Bernabé, Chaflán or Cantinflas, but Ángel García knows, like them, how to win the applause and admiration of the Island's audience.
Angel began his career at the Cubanacán cabaret in Santa Clara. By day he was a welder and tractor driver who transformed into the nocturnal humorist and in this duality the artist that he is began to prevail.
With Chaflán's help and through an audition, he began his artistic career with a humorous group that entertained the nights of Santa Clara, "Los Píos". At that time, he was a welder and tractor driver by day and at night worked at the Santa Clara cabaret, the Cubanacán, from Tuesday to Sunday.
While in Santa Clara he contacts Enrique Valladares, former director of Tropicana, who held an audition for him to be part of the Provincial Music Center in Santa Clara. From that moment on he began to work in nightclubs. In 1991 Antolín and Los Píos decided to go to Havana. Some time later Antolín arrives at the Hotel Capri with Nelson Peña, and then came the Ajíaco affair.
The great city separates Ángel García from Los Píos and Alberto Luberta, another great humorist that we all remember for his humorous scripts on Radio Progreso's afternoon programs, brings to life the peasant that we all know as Antolín el pichón. Alberto Luberta was the one who baptized Antolín as Antolín. That was many years ago, at the Radio Progreso portal. At that time Ángel García was stuck with la Pía up to the ceiling. He told Luberta, I want to do a peasant character. He said, it cannot look like Miravalles. If it looks like Miravalles you're wasting time; nor make peasants from Pinar that everyone does. The actor told him about his peasant character and the next day he already had a monologue with the name Antolín el Pichón and why he was called Antolín el Pichón.
His adventure in the capital begins and little by little he makes his way to the most popular medium in Cuba, television. There he shares the stage with great Cuban humorists and Antolín becomes confused with la Pía, and la Pía with Antolín. Nights of laughter on the "Sabadazo" program will be remembered by many Cubans, Carlos Otero, Boncó Quiñongo, Geonel Martín, Antolín among others made up the cast that brought together many good humorists on a television set.
He has also participated in Palmas y Cañas and No quiero llanto and has ventured, with success and good reception, into music and singing.
Recordings and albums, with good acceptance from the public, Ángel García has had multiple performances on Cuban Television over the years.
