Alberto Corrales Subidá

La flauta maravillosa

Flutist, composer and music teacher. He is also known as "the wonderful flute". Currently he lives and pursues his professional career in the city of Tijuana, Mexico.

Alberto Corrales Subidá was born in Guanabacoa. Son of master bassoonist Julián Corrales Chacón and Ignacia Subidá Valdez. He began his musical studies at the Guillermo Tomás conservatory in Guanabacoa in 1960, studying piano.

In 1962 he began studying flute at the same conservatory under the direction of master Mario Badía. In 1963 he received a scholarship to study at the National School of Art of Cuba, in Havana, studying under the direction of master Emitio Mayo and Todor Kiuchiukov, a Bulgarian professor.

From 1969 to 1971 he was part of the Cuban Army General Staff band. In 1971 he studied with Bulgarian professor and renowned flutist Nicolae Koev. In 1971 he joined the national concert band, under the direction of master Manuel Duchesnes Morillas and Arturo Bonachea, which he was part of until 1985 where he won a position as a concert soloist at the national center of concert music.

In 1974 he graduated from the intermediate level at the Amadeo Roldán school. In 1976 the Superior Institute of Art of Cuba was created, which he entered, studying with professors Emmanuel Didov, graduating in 1981 as a Bachelor of Music with a specialty in flute.

From 1979 to 1994 he served as a professor at the National School of Music in Cuba. In 1992 he founded the Panorama Orchestra and later, the Magic Flute trio.

1971 He worked as a flutist in the National Concert Band with conductors such as Manuel Duchesne Morillas, Arturo Bonachea and Rodrigo Prats among others.
1972 Experimental Sound Group, director Leo Brower recording with figures such as Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Sara González and Noel Nicola.
1974 He began his career as a soloist and gave concerts throughout the country, accompanied by the Camagüey Symphony Orchestra, Matanzas, Santiago de Cuba, Santa Clara, Havana Province. He simultaneously worked with the National Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of master Manuel Duchesne Cusán.
1977 Piano and flute duo with pianist Roberto Urbay.
1979 Duo with pianist Ninoshka Fernández Brito.
