José Figarola

Composer and performer.
Born in Santiago de Cuba. He began his public musical life at sixteen years of age, when he sang in theater, as a duo with Blanca Becerra.

He had Sindo Garay as his main mentor in his training; he also received attention from Pepe Sánchez and studied guitar with him and with Emiliano Blez.

In 1908 he was part of the popular Quinteto de Trovadores Santiagueros, alongside Luis Felipe Portes, Bernabé Ferrer, Emiliano Blez and Pepe Sánchez in this quintet he was the lead voice. This is how he met Pepe Banderas with whom he formed a duo.

Besides, he directed the Trío Oriental, in which Ferrer and Blez participated with this trio he worked in Havana at the Hotel Inglaterra. Author of the songs "La poesía", "Muñequita de carne" and "Un beso en el alma".
