Luis Yáñez Zuaznábar

Cuban composer. Member of the feeling movement.

He began his career as a creator in 1936, at the suggestion of composer and pianist Armando Beltrán and bassist Israel López (Cachao).

In 1940 he met Rolando Gómez, with whom he formed the songwriting duo "Yáñez-Gómez". His first work was Esperaré mi día, followed by Solo en mi soledad.

Many of his works were broadcast by the radio station Mil Diez, by famous performers both Cuban and foreign, among them: Chela Campos and Toña la Negra, Benny Moré, Pepe Reyes and Miguel D'Gonzalo.

He has worked in diverse genres of Cuban music, such as bolero, song, and guaracha.

Some of his most renowned hits are: Esperaré mi vida, Sólo en mi soledad, Fiesta de amor, Déjame olvidarte, Nuestro sentimiento, Eterna palabra, Al fin estoy enamorado, Oh, vida, ¿Qué ambicionabas tú?, Nuevas ansiedades, Toda edad, La noche y yo durmiendo and Madre nuestra.

He has also composed music for films, animated cartoons, and documentaries.

He not only dedicated himself to composition, but also to copyright law, working until his retirement at EGREM, where he played an important role in the dissemination and promotion of Cuban music.

His works have been recorded by national and foreign artists in numerous record labels such as Panart, Seeco, Musart, RCA Victor, Gema, Setro, Columbia and EGREM, among others.
