Cuban journalist Alejandro Condis, reporter and anchor for the Univision network, won three Emmy Awards in the categories of Best Team Coverage, Best Multimedia Reporter, and Best Promotional Spot at the most recent edition of the award presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences of the United States.
The three awards obtained were for work he did in 2021, during his time at the Telemundo Las Vegas channel, titled "Freedom, Homeland and Life: protests by Cubans in Las Vegas," "Telling Stories," and "Telemundo Las Vegas Newscast – Dale Play."
"I won three Emmy Awards! Last night was wonderful for me and for my Cuba. Eight years ago I was living thinking about my country that would never have a bright future," Condis wrote on his Instagram account.
"Every time extraordinary things happen to me, I know it's not just about me. So many wonderful people carrying these awards with me. And, above all, I know that someone is watching me, perhaps younger or not, and that today they will be convinced that there is hope, that they will say that this is the same boy who once thought he was worth nothing, who didn't have the grades to study Journalism at the university, who arrived in the United States crossing the border with just a backpack on his shoulder," added the young journalist.
He recalled that "there were those who said that with that voice he would never be on TV and that he better dedicate himself to something else, but there he is, with three more Emmy Awards won in one night, the highest recognition for a TV journalist in the United States."
"I swear to you: I still find it hard to believe that this is me. How did all this happen? At what moment did that boy who played at hosting a TV show with his classmates turn into this? I even feel like I don't deserve it... but I remember all the effort I put in and I allow myself without fear to be very proud of myself today and to have the fortune that my Mom lived these moments with me," he added.
Condis is a graduate in Art History, but always wanted to be a journalist. He started as an occasional commentator on television programs. He became a producer and then an anchor and reporter.
Condis won the Emmy Award for "Best Live Reporter" in 2020 for coverage of a demonstration by Cuban exiles against the Havana regime, which he did for Telemundo Las Vegas. In 2021 he won another award.
