Cuban closer Aroldis Chapman became the first Cuba-born player to appear in ten Major League Baseball postseasons on October 1, 2026, pitching for the Boston Red Sox in the American League Wild Card Series against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, according to Diario de Cuba and Pelota Cubana USA.

In Game 2, Chapman worked a perfect eighth inning, striking out Cody Bellinger, Luis García Jr. and Spencer Jones on 14 pitches (10 strikes). Boston still fell 9-2 and was swept for a second straight year. Across three postseason outings against the Yankees, the 38-year-old from Holguín has allowed no runs in 3.1 innings with eight strikeouts and one save.

Chapman is also the second Latin American-born pitcher with at least ten postseasons, behind only Panama’s Mariano Rivera (16). His playoff résumé spans Cincinnati, the Chicago Cubs, the New York Yankees, Texas and Boston. In 2026 he also joined the exclusive 400-save club, becoming the ninth reliever in MLB history to reach that mark.
