The Cuban gardener Yasiel Puig was announced this Wednesday as a reinforcement for Águila de Veracruz for the 2021 season of the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) which will begin next May 20.
"Thanks to El Águila for this opportunity and for opening your arms. This wild horse is grateful and happy to play in the field again," the ballplayer commented on social media.
With Yasiel Puig, the Los Águilas team obtains a batter who produced 132 home runs, 415 runs and with a batting average of .277. A characteristic that has kept him away from MLB teams since 2018 is his undisciplined attitude.
After leaving the Dodgers, with whom he played from 2013 to 2018, Puig went through two teams in 2019, the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians.
In the 2020 series he was not part of any team as he tested positive for COVID. In 2021, he also did not make a team in the major leagues as his bad reputation and an accusation of sexual assault preceded him.
In the Águilas Yasiel joins Venezuelans Alexi Amarista and Manuel Roldón and Dominican Edison Frías.
