Lázaro Martínez, silver in triple jump in Lausanne

August 27, 2022

Lázaro Martínez tried in Lausanne, considering the distances between one tournament and another, to shake off the sting of the Eugene World Championships. And by the result and the solidity of his performance, it could be said that he succeeded. He stretched to a meritorious 17.50 meters and won the silver medal during the Diamond League stop held the day before in the Swiss city.

The triple jumper, current world indoor champion, was second on a podium full of Cubans, although the other two medalists do not represent the Federation of the discipline on the Island. However, they were trained here and their good performances confirm the power of the Cuban jumping school, unique in the world.

Gold went to Andy Díaz (Italy), who jumped up to 17.67 meters, while bronze went to Jordan Díaz (Spain), with 17.44. The notable absence in the competition was the exceptional athlete, also Caribbean, although Portuguese national, Pedro Pablo Pichardo. All of them should be in the Zurich final soon. In Martínez's case, what was sealed this Friday is one of the best results of his entire career in all disciplines.

Another curious detail was the poor performance of American Christian Taylor, with only 16.45 meters, which shows the steep decline in his quality in recent times.

In the grand final of the Diamond League, long jumper Maykel Massó also has his presence assured, as he is second in the points race behind Greek Miltiadis Tentoglou.
