Brigadier General of the Reserve Manuel de Jesús Rey Soberón Passed Away

Brigadier General of the Reserve Manuel de Jesús Rey Soberón passed away on Friday, October 15th due to COVID-19, according to an announcement made by the Cuban National Television News NTV.

Soberón joined the Revolutionary Armed Forces in 1968 as a soldier at the San Antonio de los Baños Air Base, and due to his performance he was selected for various training courses, graduating as an officer.

The list of deceased generals in Cuba in recent months continues to grow, in the year 2021. More than a dozen high-ranking military personnel from the island have died this year from various causes, some unreported, the majority due to the coronavirus epidemic that has left hundreds of thousands of cases. Most of the high-ranking officials who died were elderly people.

Thus TVC reported in the prime time news the death of Brigadier General of the Reserve Manuel de Jesús Rey Soberón, caused precisely by COVID-19.

General Jesús Rey Soberón passed away on Friday, October 15th in the capital after a military career in which he "held various responsibilities including Radio Technician and Radiotechnical Equipment, Head of Radioelectronic Group, Brigadier Radioelectronic Equipment Engineer, Head of the MINFAR Directorate, Director of the National Defense College, among others".

Deaths within the ranks of MINFAR continue to occur with few time intervals between them. More than a dozen Cuban military personnel, active or reserve, have died in Cuba in recent months. At the end of September, Brigadier General Diego Cobas Sanz passed away, and in early October, Reserve Colonel José Ramón Silva Berroa died.
