Cuban boxer Billy Rodríguez, who made his professional boxing debut with a victory the eve in Mexico, decided to abandon the Domadores de Cuba team in order to pursue his personal dream, confirmed said squad.

Through the official profile of Domadores de Cuba on Facebook, they confirmed the news.

"We inform that, turning his back on his contractual obligations, Billy Rodríguez decided not to return to Cuba after debuting last night in professional boxing. We condemn his attitude, contrary to the commitment made", said the Cuban franchise.

Cuban Billy Rodríguez made his professional boxing debut on Friday in a six-round bout against local fighter Miguel Ángel Luna, on a card arranged in the Mexican city of La Paz.

In a video released yesterday Rodríguez said he was in very good form to face the challenge of so many rounds, something new for him coming from amateur boxing.

According to sports specialist press "the Cuban minimumweight destroyed the local hopes of Miguel Ángel Luna, whom he defeated by technical knockout in the aforementioned city.

After his debut the young man decided not to return to Cuba.

The official state press outlet JIT explained that the Cuban Panamerican champion dominated completely in defeating local fighter Miguel Ángel Luna by technical knockout in a fight that did not go past the second round.

"Scheduled for six rounds, in the 108-pound division, the fight was decided in the second, when the Caribbean fighter showed the power of his right hand against a man with 14 previous bouts of that kind (five wins and nine losses)", said JIT.

The official press report also noted that Rodríguez "displayed speed and offensive variety in the closing of the first round. Then increasing his punching power to make real the goal of giving himself a joy call to accelerate a second outing of greater magnitude".

On the other hand, they explained that the minimumweight leader had extensive preparation since he should have started "as a professional on June 5th in Buenos Aires, but the host Sergio Daniel Rosales failed to meet the weight requirements (108 pounds)".

Billy Rodríguez's victory counted as "the tenth consecutive triumph for the Domadores de Cuba franchise since it debuted in these circuits on May 20th, in a card marked by a 6-0 sweep and five decisions before the limit".

On August 28th it will be the turn of two-time Olympic champion Julio César La Cruz to step into the ring as he faces Argentine Maximiliano Agustín Corzo.
