Cuban Alaima Cesé is a victim of racism in Russian volleyball league

May 20, 2022

Young Cuban player Ailama Cesé was a victim of racist words in the final of the Russian volleyball league, from the coach of the opposing team, Andrei Voronkov.

"Why aren't you catching her again? Why aren't you catching that monkey again?", were the words of Andrei Voronkov, coach of Lokomotiv Kaliningrad, referring to the Caribbean player.

Throughout the entire final series, and especially in the last and decisive match, Ailama was a scourge for her rivals. The coach, during a requested technical timeout, confronted one of his athletes, and did not hesitate to refer to the young opposite player of Uralocha NTMK in such an offensive manner.

"At the moment, we are finding out the position of the clubs, athletes and coaches" announced the secretary of the Russian Volleyball Federation, from where they say they are paying attention to the incident.

The Cuban's club has already spoken out and demands at least a public apology from Andreu Voronkov.

Previously, the Lokomotiv Kaliningrad club and its fan base, with its technical director, had already declared themselves in favor of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which is why this would not be their first controversy.

Finally, the championship went to Lokomotiv Kaliningrad, who won 5 sets against Uralocha in the last match of the final.

Ailama had a high-caliber series, putting up numbers that made her the leader of her club.
