The canoeist from Baracoa José Ramón Pelier Córdova obtained one of the direct tickets that were given to America for the Tokyo Olympic Games next summer, after the regional elimination that was supposed to take place in Brazil from April 9 to 11 was suspended.
Pelier Córdova, as merit for obtaining the quota in the single canoe (C-1) at one thousand meters, boasts the crowns from 2019 in the World Cup in Poznan, Poland, and the Junior World Championship in Pitesti, Romania, which that year earned him selection as Cuba's best junior male athlete.
The young athlete from Guantanamo must compete this May in the world cups of Szeged (from the 14th to the 16th), in Hungary, and Barnaul (from the 21st to the 23rd), in Russia.
According to information provided by the national commissioner of this sport, José Ramón is participating in a training base in the "Old Continent" as preparation for the world cups, where he will be accompanied by the other Cuban canoeists qualified for Tokyo: Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboy and Katherin Nuevo Segura (both in C1 200 m and C2 500 m) among the women, and Fernando Dayán Jorge Enríquez (C1 1000 m, C2 1000 m) and veteran Serguey Torres Madrigal (C2 1000 m), among the men.
The delegation is completed by coaches Yosniel Domínguez (men's) and Nelson Perales (women's), doctor Dachel Rodríguez, physiotherapist Lázaro Pérez and psychologist Idalis González.
