Zeleidy Crespo
Zeleidy Crespo, native of Pinar del Río. From a very young age she began in gymnastics workshops at the Casa de Cultura of Bahía Honda, the place where she was born and where her family still lives. She began studying dance in 2001 at the Escuela de Arte "Raúl Sánchez García". In 2003, she enrolled in the Escuela Nacional de Espectáculos Musicales, where she continued her dance studies.
In 2006, Crespo graduated as a musical theater dancer and began her career in a company directed by maestro Santiago Alfonso.
During her time in this company she participated in the works Jazz, Obba Yuru, Maria Antonia and Siete contra Tebas, with the Teatro del Caribe group, directed by playwright Eugenio Hernández Espinosa, maestro Santiago Alfonso, and poet and playwright Anton Arrufat.
She has danced in various events such as the Festival Internacional del Habano, which is celebrated every year in La Habana, galas and musical productions.
In 2008, she worked in the Art and Fashion exhibition showcasing Cuban suits by designer Rafael de León.
In 2014, she joined Ballet de la Televisión Cubana, and toured internationally accompanying musical groups. She has participated in televised performances at the national level and in music videos of important figures in Cuban and Latin American music.
In 2015 she joined Acosta Danza and has since danced with the company in Europe, the United States and Asia. She has performed choreographies such as Carmen and Tocororo Suite, by Carlos Acosta; Fauno, by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui; Babbel 2.0, El salto de Nijinsky and Impronta, by María Rovira; Mundo interpretado, by Juliano Nunes; Alrededor no hay nada, by Goyo Montero; Hokiri, by Mickael Marso Riviere; Mil años después, by Saburo Teshigawara; Twelve, by Jorge Crecis; La muerte de los cisnes, version of the original by Fokine and De punta a cabo, by Alexis Fernández (Maca).
In 2023 Zeleidy received the National Dance Prize 2023 of the United Kingdom, in the category Outstanding Female Performance in Modern Dance, for her role in the piece 100%CUBANO, from Carlos Acosta's company. A show that was presented in that country in early 2022.
