Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboys

Yarisleidis Cirilo. She is a Cuban canoeist, selected in 2022 as athlete of the year in Cuba, along with judoka Andy Granda. That year she became the leader of the Cuban team present at the Poznan World Canoe Sprint Championships and with three gold medals she established herself in the elite of the discipline at the world level.

In July 2019 she participated in the Pitesti Junior World Championship in Romania, where she won a silver medal in the C1 at 200 meters by clocking 48.039 minutes and a bronze in the C1 at 500 meters (2:16.485).

I World Cup in Szeged, Hungary on May 16, 2021, Yarisleidis gave the Island the silver medal in the C1 at 200 meters, by clocking 47.88 seconds and bronze in C1-5000 meters.

At the II World Cup in Sprint Canoe Racing in the city of Barnaul, in Russia, the Guantanamo native Cirilo in the individual canoe C1-200 meters, by marking 48.736 seconds achieved a gold medal, test held on May 22, 2021. In the lake of the Siberian city the Cuban natives Yarisleidis and Katherin in C-2 at 500 m with a time of 2:02.371 won the gold medal. Hours later Yarisleidys in C1-5000 m (26:54.438) sustained a tough battle with Mailliard herself and was a victim of the rematch, falling to the South American (25:58.491) who had defeated her a few hours earlier.

On August 7, 2021, at the XXXII Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020 held this year due to COVID-19 she achieved a notable sixth place in the C2-500 meters, with a time of 2:01.623 minutes, alongside her teammate Katherin Nuevo, in the debut of Cuban women at this level. Previously the Caribbean athletes finished second in their semifinal heat, with a time of 2:03.655 minutes, only behind the Chinese Shixiao Xu and Mengya Sun (2:01.369), who were the champions of the final test.

At the World Sprint Canoe Championship, which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, from September 16 to 19, 2021, she qualified for the A finals in the C1 and C2 at 200 meters, in that latter modality alongside her teammate Katherin Nuevo, where Cuba had also qualified in the C2 at 500 meters with six boats in World Canoe Championship finals.
On September 18 she won a bronze medal in the C2 at 500 meters with a time of 1:57.70 minutes. The next day she obtained silver in the C-2 at 200 meters clocking 43.89, only one second behind the Spanish women Patricia Coco and María Corbera (43.88) and occupied the ninth position in the C-1 at 200 meters, with a time of 48.85 seconds.

On May 21, 2022 alongside her teammate Katherin Nuevo they won the title in the A final of the C2-200 and won a silver medal in the C2-500 during the Racice World Canoe Sprint Cup in the Czech Republic. With a time of 42.06 seconds in the C2-200 and 1:57.31 minutes in the 500 meters. They were only surpassed by the Olympic champions from Tokyo 2020.

Yarisleidis along with Katherin Nuevo stood out in Cuban performance of four gold medals and one bronze at the Poznan World Canoe Sprint Cup, which concluded on May 29, 2022 in Poland. The girl from Guaso did it in the C1-200 with 46.85. Cirilo and Nuevo won titles with times of 43.84 seconds in the C2-200 and 1:58.44 minutes in the C2-500.

On August 3 alongside her teammate Katherin Nuevo she qualified for the A final of the C2-500 at the Halifax 2022 World Canoe Sprint Championship, which took place at Banook Lake in Canada. With a time of 2:02.12 minutes, they led the first qualifying heat. On August 6 they won for Cuba the title of the C2-200 meters during the penultimate round of this event, crossing the finish line in 45.09 seconds. On August 4 Cirilo qualified for the A final of the C1-200 meters leading her heat with a time of 46.52 seconds. On August 7, in her strongest event, the C1-200 meters, she finished without medals, placing sixth in the standings among nine contestants in the A final of the first modality. Her time was 50.92 seconds. In her last event, the C1-5000, she placed fourth with a time of 29:09.94 minutes.

On August 10 at the opening day of the Halifax 2022 Pan American Sprint Canoe Championship in Canada, once again the duo Yarisleidis Cirilo-Katherin Nuevo won the title in the C2-500. The next day on the second round of the event Cirilo won a silver medal in the C1-200 meters against the local multi-medal world champion Katie Vicent (26), winner of bronze in the C2-500 during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. To decide the winner of the crown it was necessary to resort to a photo finish, as both finished with the identical time of 46.5 seconds.

This Friday, April 12, she won the gold of the C1-200 meters at the Szeged 2023 World Canoe Sprint Cup in Hungary, with a time of 45.99 seconds.
