He studied at the Alejandro García Caturla conservatories and continued at the Amadeo Roldán with Frank Fernández, with whom he graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte (of which he is a professor), 1985.
Graduate of the Faculty of Music of the Instituto Superior de Arte in the specialty of Piano, in the class of Master Frank Fernández. A degree that has been recognized by the Ministry of Education Sciences of Spain and by Nova University of Lisbon, Portugal.
His interpretive abilities stood out from the early stages of his training, having obtained among others the First Prize of the UNEAC Competition, 1978, the Second Prize of the International Piano Competition "Teresa Carreño" in 1981 and the Special Prize for Artistic Excellence and the Sixth Prize of the International Piano Competition "Tchaikovsky" in Moscow, 1986.
He made his debut in 1977 in a concert with the National Symphony Orchestra; later he would perform with the 64 / Rodríguez-Rodzinski Symphony Orchestra of Matanzas, the Philharmonic of Mexico, under the direction of Luis Herrera de la Fuente; in Venezuela, at the Cuban Culture Festival in that country, he performed, accompanied by the Simón Bolívar National Symphony Orchestra, Concerto No. 1 for piano and orchestra by Chaikovsky. inexhaustible. What makes the existence of the creator durable in people's memory: the path of humility in art.».
As a member of the board of the Association of Musicians of UNEAC and coordinator of its Interpreters Section, he promoted the rescue of new editions of the Interpretation Competitions and conceived the institution of the Competition and Festival of Piano "Ignacio Cervantes".
As a soloist, he belongs to the National Center for Concert Music and is a member of the Advisory Board of this institution and of the Cuban Institute of Music.
He has received important recognitions and awards from cultural and government institutions, including: Order "Rubén Martínez Villena", Replica of the Machete of Máximo Gómez, Order for National Culture and Diploma for Pedagogical Merit, as well as a set of diplomas, plaques and recognitions from the higher education centers he recently visited on his second Tour of the Universities, in coordination with the FEU.
He has offered recitals and concerts with orchestra in 16 countries in Europe, America and Asia and has recorded two phonograms: "Víctor Rodríguez Live", awarded by EGREM in 1986 as Best Classical Music Album and "From Lecuona to Bach", nominated in the Concert Soloist category at Cubadisco 2001.
Currently, he also teaches at the Piano Chair of the Faculty of Music of the Instituto Superior de Arte.
He has been decorated with the "Alejo Carpentier" Medal awarded by the Ministry of Culture last May 2002.
Among his greatest professional and competitive achievements, his Sixth Prize and the Special Prize for Artistic Excellence at the prestigious International Piano Competition Tchaikovsky in Moscow in 1986 stand out.

Víctor Rodríguez. Pianist. Founder and President of the "International Piano Competition and Festival Ignacio Cervantes" of Havana and was, until 2006, Full Professor and Head of the Piano Department of the Instituto Superior de Arte.

On the occasion of the one hundred eightieth anniversary of the birth of Polish pianist and composer Federico Chopin, Víctor Rodríguez performed Concerto No. 1 in E minor, op. 11, for piano and orchestra by Chopin, accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Soviet maestro Tulén Andrachev.
Regarding the performance of this work, this conductor expressed:
«I have conducted Chopin in the company of many pianists, but it has not been common for me to find one like him. He has played in a very singular and profound way. He seems to me a musician of high caliber. From the beginning, his philosophical conception about the music we worked on convinced me. I made a special request to Rodríguez. The arrangement of one of the piano concertos composed by Brahms to play together. It would be very pleasant to meet again with a musician of his caliber. A musician like him must be welcomed and elevated, so that others can appreciate him as a national treasure.»
In 1999, accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra, he performed the Concerto in A minor, for piano and orchestra, by Norwegian composer Edward Grieg.

«It is not common to hear this work of abundant beauty, performed with the poetry, passion, technical fluidity and expressive depth that Víctor Rodríguez achieved [...]. His intellectual vision, his general culture and his broad and profound sensitivity, delivered this music to us in a new, different way. This was undoubtedly the artistic culmination of this memorable concert.»
During the commemoration of Chopin's anniversary, Frank Fernández, Ulises Hernández, Liliana Fernández Neyra (guest) and Víctor Rodríguez performed all the nocturnes of the Polish composer.
