Vicente Feliú Miranda

El Tinto

Died: December 17, 2021

Musician, singer, guitarist, and singer-songwriter.

He is the firstborn son, nephew, and grandson of a large family with Spanish roots and independence-minded links, to which music comes naturally.

His grandmother was a piano teacher, his father sang, and his entire paternal family had excellent voices. "My father made very beautiful songs, really precious ones, and he made many for my mother. The first thing I ever played in my life was a song of his."

He learns to play the guitar from his father and simultaneously begins composing in 1964, in an intuitive and necessary way, while attending secondary school. In those years, other young people in different parts of Cuban geography were discovering both social experiences and song, and years later, in 1972, they would form what became known as the New Trova Movement.

One of its most representative voices along with Pablo Milanés, Silvio Rodríguez, Noel Nicola, Lázaro García, Augusto Blanca, and José Andrés Ordás Aguilera, among others. Vicente worked for fifteen years in the organization holding different responsibilities including the presidency.

He has performed in more than 20 countries in the Americas, Europe, and Africa, and shared stages with numerous singers, among which are:

Silvio Rodríguez and Pablo Milanés (Cuba)
Luis Eduardo Aute and Caco Senante (Spain)
Isabel Parra and Inti Illimani (Chile)
León Gieco and Mercedes Sosa (Argentina)
Jackson Browne, Pete Seeger, Holly Near, and Little Stevens (United States)
Daniel Viglietti and Alfredo Zitarrosa (Uruguay)
Luis Enrique and Carlos Mejía Godoy (Nicaragua)

He has composed music for theatrical works, television, and shows and has collaborated in cultural programs as an assistant director and musical director. He was a music advisor for Cuban radio and television and a scriptwriter, announcer, and radio director.

Currently, he directs the cultural center Canto de Todos, which promotes meetings and exchanges, through song, in Ibero-American countries.
